Matthew's Journey to Better Health

Picture
Matthew's story is just one of many. He first came to us a few years back, grappling with severe dental pain and without any transportation from his home in The Plains, resulting in an on-foot journey of over two hours one way to reach our clinic. After addressing Matthew's urgent dental concerns, our team helped arrange transportation support so that he could return to see our primary care clinicians.
Under the expert care of Dr. Kilyk, Matthew has experienced remarkable health improvements. His neuropathy, which previously caused significant loss of sensation in his hands and arms, has greatly improved. Additionally, his blood pressure has decreased, and his mobility and activity levels are the best they've been in years. Dr. Kilyk also introduced Matthew to our Fresh Farmacy program, which delivers fresh produce directly to his door, enhancing his nutrition and overall health.

Matthew often says, "Dr. Kilyk has saved my life." Stories like his reinforce the importance of our work. We are immensely grateful for daily opportunities to transform lives and impact our community.

Volunteer to Team Member

Meet Veronica! In March 2024, Veronica joined Fauquier Free Clinic as a volunteer, dedicating her time to help bridge the critical language gaps we face daily. Her exceptional skills in interpretation were quickly recognized, leading to an invitation to join our team as a part-time employee. Now, she not only continues her vital interpretation work but also manages front desk duties, seamlessly integrating administrative support with
language assistance. Veronica's vibrant positivity and diligent work ethic have made her an indispensable asset to our dental clinic, enhancing each interaction with our patients. Her commitment to growth continues as she embarks on a new journey starting February 2025, pursuing a dental assistant training program at Laurel Ridge Community College. Her story is a testament to the profound impact that dedicated volunteers and staff make for our community.
Testimonials from Our Student Nurses
We appreciate our partnerships with Shenandoah University and Virginia Commonwealth University, which bring outstanding nursing and pharmacy students to our clinic.

This year, Piedmont Smiles marked its third annual event on November 2, 2024, hosted at Liberty High School in Bealeton, VA. The initiative continued to embody our mission of providing essential dental care to those in need within the Fauquier community. Having treated over 750 patients in the past three years, this year, we served a record 280 patients in one day, making it our most impactful event to date. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our volunteers and the generous support from our donors, we were able to offer a range of dental services including cleanings, fillings, and extractions, all at no cost to the patients. The event also provided a valuable educational component, promoting oral health awareness and preventive care practices.
As we reflect on the success of Piedmont Smiles 2024, we are reminded of the profound difference we can make in people's lives through community collaboration and commitment. Looking ahead, we are motivated to expand our reach and continue breaking barriers to healthcare access.

Women's Care Spotlight:
Supporting a New Member
of Our Community

This year, our Women's Care program had the privilege of welcoming a newly pregnant mother of four who recently moved to our community. Referred to us by her sister-in-law, a current satisfied patient, she was assured of receiving excellent care at our clinic. Understanding the challenges of navigating a new community while expecting, we were committed to ensuring she received comprehensive support.
Upon her first visit, we facilitated an obstetric care referral and assisted her in applying for Medicaid and financial aid. Additionally, we coordinated care with a local pediatrician and assisted with school enrollment for her children.
This story highlights the holistic approach we take at the Free Clinic, not just addressing immediate health needs but also help-ing integrate families into the community and ensuring their broader well-being. It's stories like these that underscore the importance of our Women's Care program and the profound impact it can have on the lives of individuals and families who turn to us for help.

Advancing Patient Health
Through Preventative Care

Picture
Over the last eighteen months, the Fauquier Free Clinic has em-barked on an intensive study to gauge the effectiveness of pre-ventative screenings and their impact on our patients' health. By comparing data from a patient's initial visit to subsequent visits after regular exams and medical interventions over a year, we've been able to gather valuable insights into the true impact in our own community of early detection and continuous care. While  we are still in the process of analyzing the complete data sets, preliminary findings underscore the critical role these screenings play in managing and preventing serious health conditions like breast cancer, cervical cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, mental health and colorectal cancer. We are looking forward to reporting on
this study in the coming year.
