Our Mission
The Fauquier Free Clinic provides compassionate medical, dental, mental health, and now pediatric care to uninsured and underinsured individuals and families in Rappahannock and Fauquier counties.

Everyone deserves access to quality health care regardless of income
or status.

Dear Friends and Partners,

Non-profit agencies in Fauquier and Rappahannock faced a challenging year in 2025, particularly those of us providing health care for the uninsured.  Our staff and volunteers served the most patients in our history despite a tough funding and donor environment.  Households are facing higher costs for insurance and for health care, leading more and more to delay services or opt out of coverage. That means more people counting on us to look after them and their families.  In the midst of this, the Fauquier Free Clinic continued to grow — expanding services, strengthening partnerships, and even launching a new pediatric primary care program for children without coverage.

Across medical, dental, and behavioral health, thousands of visits told the same story: working families relied on us during some of their most challenging moments. Local donors and volunteers are working together to ensure that the whole community is healthy, keeping people on their jobs, in school, and participating in our local economy. Most importantly, we take great care of our patients so that they have the best chance to thrive and prosper. Thank you all for believing in this mission... or come by for a visit sometime!

Meet Sarah

Picture
We first met Sarah at age 18, when she came to the Free Clinic looking to escape from an abusive relationship and unsure where to turn. After confiding in our team, she was connected with trusted community partners who helped her navigate the legal steps  needed to find safety and stability.
Some time later, Sarah returned to us, now pregnant with her first child and struggling to access prenatal care. During a gap in  insurance coverage, our staff walked alongside her, helping her apply for Medicaid, manage severe morning sickness, and connect with a local OB/GYN. She was also linked to additional supports from our amazing local network, including WIC, Mom2Mom, and lactation education, ensuring she had the resources needed to prepare for motherhood.
Sarah welcomed her baby right before Christmas 2025. Though her care has transitioned, she remains connected to the Free Clinic—the place that has supported her through multiple turning points with compassion, dignity, and care.

Many Hands. One Purpose.

Each year, Piedmont Smiles transforms Liberty High School into a full, one-day dental clinic — and 2025 was no exception. This annual event welcomed 280 patients for free X-rays, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and pain- relief services.
Hundreds of volunteer dentists, hygienists, assistants, students, nurses, and community members work
side by side to make this day possible. For many participants, it is their first step into ongoing medical and dental care through the Fauquier Free Clinic.

Since Piedmont Smiles began, more than 1,000 patients have received free dental services thanks to the incredible collaboration between the Virginia Dental Association Foundation’s Missions of Mercy Program, Liberty High School, VCU and Howard University dental students, Germanna Community College nursing students, and volunteers from across the region.
Medical Clinic

This year, our medical team placed a strong emphasis on improving care for patients with high blood pressure, one of the most common and dangerous chronic conditions we see.
To support better health outcomes, we expanded beyond in-office visits—equipping patients with at-home blood pressure monitors, log books, providing clear, printed instructions for at-home tracking, and offering pill organizers to support medication consistency. Our care doesn’t end when a patient leaves the clinic; staff now conduct follow-up calls after visits to check readings, answer questions, and reinforce treatment plans.

Introducing
Pediatric Care
at the Fauquier Free Clinic

On July 9, 2025, we launched pediatric services —
a milestone that allows us to serve entire families with comprehensive care. We welcomed Beverlyn Silberbauer, FNP, a bilingual Family Nurse Practitioner whose warmth and connection to Spanish-speaking families created immediate trust. As we reflect on the success of Piedmont Smiles 2024, we are reminded of the profound difference we can make in people's lives through community collaboration and commitment. Looking ahead, we are motivated to expand our reach and continue breaking barriers to healthcare access.

Pediatric Services Include:
• Well-child visits
• Sick visits
• Sports physicals
• Developmental screenings
• Care coordination

Since launching, we have already served over 100 uninsured children, with Wednesday appointments consistently full.

Mental Health

Demand for behavioral health services remained high in 2025. Through counseling, psychiatry, and tele-mental health partners, our team offered judgment-free, accessible care for those navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, and life stressors.

Within Reach

Picture
From back roads to community gatherings, access matters.
In 2025, residents of Rappahannock County relied on the Free Clinic for 921 visits—a reflection of our commitment to serving both Fauquier and Rappahannock counties and ensuring care is accessible, even in our most rural areas. We are proud to support this community not only through clinic visits, but by showing up locally—connecting with residents at events, sharing resources, and building trusted relationships beyond our clinic walls.
